Fluency Overnight!
Check out RbtPP in what I think is Italian?? LOL!
Apples & Apples
Of course, that's the whole reason I DON'T like okra. Slimy vegetables are not my friend.
Wow, I miss PaPa. He had alzheimer's in his later years, and he barely knew us before he died. In fact, he was introducing Grandma as his sister by the end. That really broke her heart. We could all tell that he probably didn't know us, but didn't want to let on that he was having a hard time with it.
It's funny what we remember about people.
Saturday Anti-Old-Fogeyness
We went to part of Greenville/Spartanburg airport (FedEx Facility) to volunteer at the Special Olympics fundraiser that my company was helping to sponsor (the reason it was @ the airport was b/c FedEx was sponsoring also, and they had a plane-pull... aka crazy people pulling a plane with huge ropes. Turns out that they decided to wrap up our part just a little after we got there, so instead of running kiddie booths, we helped pack it in for the day. Afterward, we walked around to the rest of the booths, Josh ate a huge turkey leg(!), I had cherry shaved-ice, then we left.
Next, we went to Niki's first house (sister-in-law) that she is trying to sell and checked out the outside. We couldn't get in yet, but I love the outside. Though, we can't have a pool unless we get a small one! :( The yard is sloped, had a huge tree in the middle (like twice the size of the psychotic tree in Poltergeist), and it doesn't seem large enough to me. That really is a factor for me for house hunting... whether or not we can have a pool, b/c I REALLY want one. But, just the fact that Niki is willing to sell it to us for what she owes on it is weighing heavier on me than a pool. I can blow up a four footer pool with an air compressor, you know?!?
The reason we couldn't get inside the house was b/c Niki was hanging out with friends. She invited us out downtown Saturday night, and neither one of us could really pass that up. It has been quite awhile since we'd done anything like that, so we were pretty gung-ho about it. We went home, got ready, and waited on Niki's call, which was about 20 minutes after we got home - perfect timing, truthfully. We went out to Wild Wings, where the music kind of blew that time... and then on to Sharkie's Pub, which all of us liked much better. We met a lot of Niki's co-workers - Melissa 1, Melissa 2, Sherry, Darryl, Angie - nice to meet all of you/see you again (Angie)!! Hey, also - Darryl and Niki - thanks for the shot rounds! It was a good night, but Josh had to get up early on Sunday, so we had to call it a night quicker than we wanted. :( All in all - good times!
Geez - 1AM - I switched to 8:30 schedule at work from now on instead of my regular 10AM - I only work @10 on Mondays so my other guy can go to class in NC. What a drive at 5:30 anyway! It's bad enough getting through downtown G'ville during rush hour, much less across the SC/NC border.
I've got to get used to this early-bird schedule quickly - I almost fell asleep @ work today. That would seriously blow goats though - someone at work got fired yesterday, and @%#*& had been there over 5 years - I guess no one is exempt - sometimes you just need a wake-up call like that to get your act together, right?
Speaking of which - goodnight!

Rival Dread
Woo-hoo! My hit counter crossed the 200 mark! I think about 20 were me reloading the page on my remote access site, but who cares!
The band must travel tonight. We go to our rival team's school, Travelers Rest (TR for short, of course). I, as a band member in high school and college, loved it. However, I, as a pseudo-chaperone, hate going to rival school games in general, not just that away ones.
Just to give you an example of how bad I dislike it, here's a past scenario:
Last year, the Berea/TR game was at Berea (FYI: pronounced Ba-ree-ah, not Bear-ee-ay!). When we have home games, our band officers travel to the opposing side and meet with the other band's officers. You know... just so our kids can actually meet someone outside the Berea world. To get to the band, you have to walk past the entire opposing crowd. While doing that, we got cussed out, things thrown at us, and someone picking a fight with our drum major... and that was a HOME game! That being said, I am not looking forward to going to TR's home field. Good thing: at least their officers come to us tonight. And, by the way, TR and Berea's bands are not rivals, just the sports teams. We can't really be rivals when they're about 75 people larger than us!
Wish me luck.
Oh yeah, you can check our team out (and maybe a glimpse of the band) on the "Friday Night Hits" videos on www.thecarolinachannel.com!

First Evacuees Arrive At Expo Center
More Than 100 Arrive From New Orleans
POSTED: 8:14 pm EDT September 7, 2005
UPDATED: 11:43 pm EDT September 7, 2005
GREENVILLE -- After two days of waiting, the Hurricane Katrina evacuee shelter at the Palmetto Expo Center has its first residents.
A plane carrying 108 people from New Orleans touched down at the Greenville-Spartanburg airport just before 8 p.m. Wednesday, where they boarded buses to the Expo Center.
Many Upstate residents were on hand to welcome the evacuees.
"Just the word welcome means so much to them," said Claudette Neeley. "They don't have anything ... We really do welcome them. We love them."
"It could have just as well been us. You don't never know. We need each other," Terri Cooper said.
New Orleans evacuees Betty Doyle and her husband were rescued by helicopter when their house disappeared under water.
"We walked over dead people," Doyle said. "We had to sit on a bridge for three days before we got a ride to where we were going."
Once they arrived, they were given a shower and registered into the shelter.
The Expo Center can hold as many as 1,200 people. Volunteers and workers have been setting up cots and inflatable beds at the shelter for the past two days. The Salvation Army is prepared to feed the evacuees.
Greenville City Manager Jim Bourey said the city is expecting another planeload of evacuees Thursday evening.

Katrina Reaches Greenville Part 2
Preparations For Katrina Evacuees Continue
Up To 1,500 People Expected At Expo Center
POSTED: 8:08 pm EDT September 5, 2005
UPDATED: 11:08 am EDT September 6, 2005
GREENVILLE -- The city of Greenville is about to grow by several hundred temporary citizens.
As many as 1,500 people are expected to arrive in the Upstate beginning Tuesday afternoon.
Many will be transferred Gulf Coast medical patients and their families, while others will be evacuees.
Red Cross volunteers were setting up cots and preparing plans to house hundreds of people at the Palmetto Expo Center Monday night.
"The best expectation we have is a week to two weeks, maybe as long as a month," Greenville City Manager Jim Bourey said. "FEMA and the federal agencies want to provide more permanent housing, rather than stay in the convention center on the floor."
Bourey said that the city has set up a toll-free hotline for people wishing to get information or volunteer: (866) 313-0081. Bourey said the shelter has sufficient volunteers for this week, but needs more people for the following weeks.
The shelter will be a combined effort by the Upstate chapter of the American Red Cross, the city of Greenville and the Salvation Army, though the city will be in overall charge.
Bourey said that the shelter does not need any items yet, but that the city will compile a list of needed items, then release that list and drop-off locations to the public.
Costs of running the shelter will be reimbursed by FEMA.
The Greenville County School District said that any child that comes to the shelter will be assigned to a school and bused from the Expo Center to that school each day for classes.
Greenville Memorial Hospital is also preparing for the medical cases it will receive.
"Dysentery, and cholera, and typhoid, and those could be conditions we will see. But we anticipate seeing a lot of chronic illnesses, diabetes, high blood pressure, maybe in need of dialysis," nurse Suzanne White said.
"We really want to do what we can, play our part in what really is a national disaster, a national tragedy," Bourey said.
The first non-medical evacuees are expected at Greenville-Spartanburg airport sometime Wednesday.
Medical evacuees and their families will arrive separately after flying to Columbia for evaluation and assignment, and could arrive Tuesday.
While no one knows how many evacuees will come to South Carolina, officials say it could be as
many as 18,000 over the next few weeks.
Officials said most will be housed in the Midlands and Upstate because of the potential for hurricanes in the Lowcountry and Pee Dee.
Officials said it's likely that at least some of the evacuees will become permanent Upstate residents.

COLUMBIA -- A South Carolina team specializing in urban search and rescue has been called to Louisiana.
Also heading to the Gulf Coast are 22 Greenville firefighters and paramedics.
Officials say the 36 searchers were called to duty Monday to spend 14 days in St. Bernard Parish, looking for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The search unit will use equipment ranging from hydraulic jacks to high-tech listening devices to specially trained dogs.
The Greenville paramedics and firefighters are experts in handling hazardous materials, decontamination and rescues from water and confined spaces.

Football update
Just got rid of a bunch of junk comments - I didn't even know people tried to advertise there as well. What a waste of internet space!
Josh rented "Flight of the Phoenix" and "Sin City". We've seen Sin City before, but it was good enough to rent again. We're watching FotP right now. It seems to be pretty good.
More later, I don't want to miss the movie!

Believe it or not
I'm actually working my tail off today!
6:04PM: Ok this is pitiful - I was only able to write one sentence in 45 minutes! We have another football game tonight, so I have to haul butt from here to there. I'm already late when I get off work, so it's a serious time crunch from 7-7:30. Since we have a good computer at home now, Josh has finally learned how to email back and forth. Since I can't chat at work and he has a few days off, he's been emailing me like crazy LOL.
ok... gotta go...
The Pink Dress
The Pink Dress
There was this little girl sitting by herself in the park. Everyone passed by her and never stopped to see why she looked so sad. Dressed in a worn pink dress, barefoot and dirty, the girl just sat and watched the people go by. She never tried to speak. She never said a word. Many people passed by her, but no one would stop. The next day I decided to go back to the park in curiosity to see if the little girl would still be there. Yes, she was there, right in the very spot where she was yesterday, and still with the same sad look in her eyes. Today I was to make my own move and walk over to the little girl. For as we all know, a park full of strange people is not a place for young children to play alone.
As I got closer I could see the back of the little girl's dress. It was grotesquely shaped. I figured that was the reason people just passed by and made no effort to speak to her. Deformities are a low blow to our society and, heaven forbid if you make a step toward assisting someone who is different. As I got closer, the little girl lowered her eyes slightly to avoid my intent stare. As I approached her, I could see the shape of her back more clearly. She was grotesquely shaped in a humped over form. I smiled to let her know it was OK; I was there to help, to talk. I sat down beside her and opened with a simple, "Hello". The little girl acted shocked, and stammered a "hi"; after a long stare, into my eyes. I smiled and she shyly smiled back. We talked until darkness fell and the park was completely empty. I asked the girl why she was so sad. The little girl looked at me with a sad face said, "Because, I'm different".
I immediately said, "That you are!"; and smiled.
The little girl acted even sadder and said, "I know."
"Little girl," I said, "you remind me of an angel, sweet and innocent."
She looked at me and smiled, then slowly she got to her feet and said, "Really?"
"Yes, you're like a little Guardian Angel sent to watch over all people walking by." She nodded her head yes, and smiled.
With that she opened the back of her pink dress and allowed her wings to spread, then she said "I am."
I'm your Guardian Angel, " with a twinkle in her eye. I was speechless -- sure I was seeing things. She said, "For once you thought of someone other than yourself. My job here is done".
I got to my feet and said, "Wait, why did no one stop to help an angel?" She looked at me, smiled, and said, "You're the only one that could see me," and then she was gone.
And with that, my life was changed dramatically.
So, when you think you're all you have, remember, your angel is always watching over you.

The Lighter Side
On another note, I have come to the realization that I am a domestic micro-manager. I just have to look over poor Josh's shoulder almost every time he does something (like if I ask him to help out with a certain house chore or something like that) to make sure it's done right. I hate admitting this, but it looks to be true. It's not like he does any of it wrong, either! Geez, if this is what I'm doing, why not do it myself?!? Ok, ok, ok, now that I have committed to putting that fact on paper, it is a fact I would like to change to unprovable myth. I'll try for a week to leave him alone (which includes a weekend during which we need to clean, so that'll be a real test of will power). I swear I'll leave him alone.
Dream Journal - Volume 1
I dreamed I was upset for some reason, like I was lost and no one could help me. I came upon two men on a street corner. One looked at me and walked over to me, and I kept thinking that he looked familiar. It was Eddie. I got frantic and told him to stay where he was, that I needed to tell someone that I'd found him. I left to go find help and no one would help me. I came back, exasperated, and Eddie was gone.
I woke up very upset, as you might guess.
I can't even begin to imagine how his family feels, if I was just a friend and I am having all of these feelings.

Rainy Tuesday
One of my good friends from band (one of the instructors from two years ago) called me and asked if I went to Eddie’s memorial service. First of all, I wish I had. Oh yeah, and he was buried this past Friday, August 26th, two weeks and one day after his death in Afghanistan. Wow, it takes a body so long to get home from there. But when she called, all the thoughts of Eddie came back and I was almost back where I started. I am a little better now, but it was hard at first. I saw pictures of his funeral online. It was hard to look at my friends going through something so sad. I’ll post more links to Eddie later on.
Geez – it’s REALLY windy here. We’re getting remnants of Hurricane Katrina, now TS Katrina, I guess. It just stopped down-pouring as well. Macy’s probably hiding and Lucy’s probably crying. She does when she wants attention, and she always ends up getting it! We had ants in the apartment (commonplace in SC) and they were making a trail on the kitchen floor. I found that after hearing Lucy cry in the kitchen (the first time I’d ever heard her do that). I ran to see what was wrong and she was looking at the ant line and crying (not whining or vocalizing, but crying!).
I can’t think of anything more to write. LOL

Too Much Laundry For One Night
I set up my new scanner today (the one my Dad gave me). I love it! After I've scanned something, I'm not sure how to make it look like a 4x6 picture instead of an 8.5x11 page with a 4x6 stuck to the top of it, though. I'll have to check out the owner's manual, I guess!
I bought my Dad a bunch of cool South Carolina Gamecocks-themed stuff... address labels, notepad, squishy pillow, stickers. I'm going to give it to him as part of his Christmas present. He LOVES Gamecocks. I do, too, though we live closer to Clemson (rival) than USC. He'd never dare root for Clemson!
Time to go - Josh just got home and I've only seen him for about two hours today! More tomorrow...
Midnight in the garden of blogging and late-night snacking
The marching band I help instruct did SO well on Friday during the game. I had fears about them going on last night, but they pulled it off! We all were proud of them. I look forward to the competitions we have coming up in October.
We celebrated (for the 2nd time) Josh's birthday at his mom's home today. He and I went out on Thursday, his official date, by going out to dinner and opening his presents. His mom made fried chicken and baked macaroni (at Josh's request) and his sister and bro-in-law came over as well. Nice time had by all!
Afterward, I ditched Josh at his mom's and headed over to meet my parents at a funeral home for one of our family friend's visitation. This woman, Barb, knew me as a baby (in fact, knew my mom and dad right after they were married, I believe) and has always been such a great person.
I picked up Josh and we scurried over to Mom and Dad's where Dad presented us with a color scanner - woo-hoo! He got a new one and let us have his original (nothing wrong with it, just that he found an all-in-one scanner/copier/fax and had no use for this one).
Did you like my synopsis?
:)
Oh yeah, and I burned my very first Audio CD-R tonight! ::scattered pathetic applause:: Thank you, thank you. I'd like to thank my Dell for making this possible, and I'd like to thank Maxell for making my CD-R purchase require reading glasses to see if it'll play in my car. Thank you so much!
Ok - yeah - that's enough fun for tonight. More in the exciting life of a 28 year old fogey tomorrow!

Cat Survives Sword Attack
Arvada Man Faces Felony, Misdemeanor Charges
UPDATED: 10:51 am EDT August 26, 2005
ARVADA, Colo. -- An Arvada man chased a cat around the house with a two-foot-long sword, stabbing it several times, police said Thursday.
Richard Davis, 38, faces a felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief following the incident, Denver television station KMGH reported.
Police were called out at 4 a.m. on Aug. 17 and arrested Davis after finding a house cat named Precious stabbed six times.
According to people living in the home, the cat had recently given birth to a litter of kittens and scratched and bit a woman who brought home a stray kitten.
Police said the woman was the fiancee of Davis, who became incensed and chased Precious through the house, wounding it severely.
The woman turned over ownership of Precious and her kittens to Planned Pethood Plus, which managed to save the cat's life and is caring for it while it recovers.
Davis is being held at the Jefferson County Jail, according to police.

Holy Crap! An Earthquake!
Earthquake Rocks Western Carolinas
Quake Measures 3.8 On Richter Scale
POSTED: 12:03 am EDT August 25, 2005
UPDATED: 9:07 am EDT August 25, 2005
HOT SPRINGS, N.C. -- If you thought you felt the earth move Wednesday night, you were right.
An earthquake struck the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia just after 11 p.m., causing some scares but very little damage.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was about 2 miles from Hot Springs, N.C., which is about 25 miles north-northwest of Asheville.
Preliminary reports indicate the quake took place about 3 miles below the ground and reached a magnitude of 3.8.
The area where the quake occurred has been previously identified by the USGS as having a higher potential for earthquakes than much of the surrounding region.
People across the Upstate and as far south as Augusta reported rattling dishes and glasses, and many said they could feel the tremor coming as it approached.
Others closer to the epicenter described the event as being like a bomb hitting their home.
The quake's duration was reported to be anywhere between 7 and 20 seconds.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported a rockslide on Highway 209 in Madison County, near the epicenter of the quake. Scattered power outages were also reported, mainly near the epicenter.
The USGS said a considerably smaller 1.6 magnitude quake happened Tuesday evening about 50 miles west of Wednesday night's epicenter.

Fool me more than twice!
Things are looking better today – just in time for Josh’s birthday, as well. I'm planning a nice dinner and birthday cake (he likes carrot cake).
My scheduling problem with the band got so bad yesterday that I walked into practice completely prepared to quit (it’s not like I wanted to, but I didn’t see any other choice). The director talked to me and told me that if she had me once a week, she’d be fine, as long as I am there for the football games and competitions, which weren’t a problem anyway, since they didn’t occur during work time (try saying all that in one breath!).
I feel a lot better today. I was even able to talk about Eddie yesterday, which is a huge step. Any other time I’d thought about him, I had this huge lump in my throat and I knew it’d be a short matter of time until I cried. Now, I can look at his picture and yeah, I’m still sad, but I am also thankful that we had him in this world for as long as we did.
2-4PM:
Just got back from lunch, loved on the kitties, watched some People’s Court, had some Burger King. All in all, it was a good hour.
Oh yeah, you’ll laugh at this. I downloaded overnight what I read as The Hobbit 2006 Trailer (some of you might have done the same thing). I was excited that Peter Jackson was finally able to make the movie! I looked at it, and it was AWESOME. I text-messaged Josh to brag that I watched the trailer for it and he hadn’t yet. He called me back and told me it was probably fake. He said he’d seen one that had parts of the original movies and some from Dragonslayer and/or Reign of Fire awhile back; which, looking back, was EXACTLY what I saw!! I feel so dumb! Either way, though, fake or real, it looked good. If Peter Jackson makes the movie look anything like that fake trailer, then it’s going to be excellent. Truthfully, it makes me look forward to seeing the real movie even more.
New song of the day: Omnisoul: Waiting (Save Your Life). I love it! Oh yeah, and the entire Dragonheart soundtrack.

Monday part 2
I guess it’s just my week to get crapped on…
I’ve been trying to adjust both my work and band schedules so that I can do both while not losing any time at either. Today I found out I can’t do it the way I’d planned. My boss (who I love to death, by the way, so don’t get me wrong… it’s not her fault) told me there wasn’t any way they could let me work earlier AND take time off on the early days. I understand, but it was the only way I could get the whole band season in. I really don’t want to disappoint my band kids. I didn’t let on to my boss that it bothered me, but it really does. I don’t know what I’m going to do about it.
I waited in line at Wendy’s for a half hour (which really wasn’t a big deal), but then I get to the counter and hear “our credit machine is down”, like they have never heard of the manual swipers (you know, those old back and forth swipers that use carbon sheets. I guess no one does that anymore? Like I said, no big deal, and I literally had just enough cash to pay for my meal. Lucky me, I only have an hour for lunch, so I’m glad it worked out that way instead of having to take something back to work.
Oh yeah, and then I accidentally spilled water on someone’s desk. It’s like one of those slow-mo events… you know what’s going to happen, and yet, you can’t do anything about it. Imagine me saying “Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooo” in a really low voice and you’ll get the picture. Granted, it wasn’t A LOT of water, but it’s the perfect day to do so, right?
Josh had a drug test today for his upcoming new job this morning after jumping off my car. He said they cut, not pulled, about 200 hairs from his head. The brain children are going to have to do mitochondrial tests if they need anything to do with DNA. I don’t know a lot about drug tests yet, but I would have imagined they’d pull roots and make it easier on themselves to get a full substance history. Maybe they don’t need it like DNA analysts do. That's why I don't make the drug tests bucks. :)
Sad Story for the day

Ok, so there wasn't a part 2 for Friday
Here's my Monday morning synopsis -
- I lent Josh my car last night to go to Blockbuster and Bi-Lo (grocer). Apparently, he left the lights on (He's not REALLY that dumb, since his car has those lights that turn off automatically - he just forgot he was in my car instead of his, I guess)!! I had to make him drive back between orientation at his soon-to-be new job and going to regular work to jump my car off since there was no one else I knew had cables at home.
So, I didn't get to go to the bank to make my deposit b/c of that. I hope my Kazaa subscription doesn't come through before I get my band checks in the bank (by the way, if anyone knows a way to make Kazaa run faster besides using Morpheus through Kazaa, let me know - 4kb/s is NOT cutting it)!
- I arrived at work (only 7 minutes late, thank you very much) and suddenly had this overwhelming feeling of - well, I don't know what - dread, depression, Monday Blues? I've never really had Monday Blues b/c I love my job, but I don't know what else to attribute it to. I know I had a slow start today (and Kazaa pissed me off), but geez! I'm not even that sensitive!
My other theory is that Eddie's death has subliminally hit me a little harder than I thought. I was looking through the Greenville obits for Josh's grandfather and accidentally hit Eddie's instead (their names are close in the obit alphabet). Seeing his picture pop up this morning upset me. I guess it'll take some time.
I'm going to look at pictures of Macy and Lucy to cheer me up - don't fret!
More later - might be as late as when I get off work - who knows?

Friday, Part 1
On the way to work, I passed by my normal places… retirement homes, CVS, gas station, as well a place called Hartness International (some business, does I-don’t-know-what). They own a large open field and usually let the grass get about a foot high before they cut it in the summertime. As I came to it this morning, it looked like about 40 black snakes were rising up from the ground (I couldn’t tell that the grass was high until I got closer to it). I couldn’t help but think, “Why are all of their bodies curved the exact same way?” My other thought was that it looked like that popular faked picture of the Loch Ness monster multiplied by 40. As I got closer, I figured it out – they were grazing Canadian Geese!! Duh – I should have known – they hang out there and our apartment complex on a regular basis. I wish I’d had my camera with me – it would have been a funny photo.

Good news
Catching up
1st:: Marching band camp went really well. The new director is great. She gets the kids “in line.” By the end of the 2nd day, she had them marching so well that I was astonished. Although some of them reverted back to their seemingly uneducated marching ways, most kept using the tips she gave them and have continued improving day by day. The field show is ¼ finished and well on its way to being finalized on the field. The 2nd movement will be on the field by next week (it would have been yesterday, but lightning made us send them all home – nothing worse than tubas and flag poles becoming lightning rods). I am excited about this year.
2nd: Josh’s grandfather died on 8-11. Josh’s mom left him a message at our home and I got it later on when I got there. I called Josh, and by that time, his grandfather had died only five minutes before. Even though Josh was not close to his grandfather, it was still hard for him to witness the pain his mother was going through. The service at the church was very nice.
3rd: One of my very good friends from band, Sgt. Eddie Heselton, was killed in Afghanistan on Thursday, 8-11. He was a wonderful trombone player. He left behind his wife and one year old daughter, as well as his parents and an older brother named Charlie, older sister named Carla (one of my fellow Girl Scout members from elementary school) and a younger brother named Andy (one of my band students up until the year before last). Eddie was such a kind person. In fact, I never heard anything bad come out of his mouth. He was a highly spiritual person who thought pretty much anything could be done with just a little faith in oneself. He had a car repair business with a friend. Today is his memorial service, and he’ll be buried at Arlington. Here is the link to his obituary and picture (which I'll post as soon as I can) if anyone wants to take a look. http://news.greenvilleonline.com/obits/obits.php?content=obittext&id=86176.
The world has lost a very special, talented person. I will miss Eddie very much.

The Fabric of our Lives?
Macy is addicted to Q-tips. He chews off the cotton on both ends and leaves the sticks for Mommy to find.
Here are the warning signs that your piddy has an addiction:
- He steals Q-tips from his mommy and daddy's hands.
- He has Q-dar (radar) and finds them in a trash can.
- He tips over the holder on the bathroom sink and spreads them all over the sink and floor.
- He jumps into the linen closet to find the extra Q-tip box and steals them.
I swear he's going to crap a cotton ball one day.
(Don't worry - I had him checked out - apparently, the cotton "exits" just fine.)
I'll post the evidence as soon as I can catch him "white-handed."
BBQ Party
Ananova:
Gravediggers held BBQ in cemetery
Gravediggers in a Belgian city have been criticised for holding a barbecue party in a cemetery.
It follows a complaint from a couple who visited the cemetery at Merksem, Antwerp, to visit the grave of their son.
François and Magda Boljau were shocked to find the gravediggers holding a party in a shed at the cemetery, reports Het Nieuwsblad.
Mrs Bolijau said: "It was happening only 15 metres from his grave. The music of 'Sex bomb, sex bomb' was coming very loud from the loudspeakers.
"Children were playing between the graves. I couldn't stand it and ran away in tears."
Alderman Erwin Pairon, who is responsible for Antwerp's cemeteries, said he was very annoyed with the gravediggers.
The gravediggers insisted they held a party every year in the same shed and that nobody had complained before.
But Alderman Pairon said: "Next year, they have to move. I understand it is very upsetting for the parents to have to listen to a party when they came to mourn."
Blue Lobster
Blue Lobster Caught
A rare blue lobster has been caught by fishermen in the US.
The crustacean owes its colour to a gene found in just one in five million of the creatures.
The female is housed at the Audubon Society Centre in Bristol, Rhode Island, US reports the Mirror.
Centre director Jeffrey Hall said: "Now that it's come out with this brilliant blue colour, it's attracting a lot of attention."
Story filed: 10:36 Wednesday 3rd August 2005 -->
This is as close as I could find for a blue lobster - cool, right?

Alter Bridge Lyrics
Butterfly (This makes more sense)
You're a Butterfly!
Fragile and beautiful, you work as a good-luck charm for those
around you. People are always happy to see you and sometimes beseech you to reach
out to them as a blessing for their day. Though you are proud of your reputation,
you strive not to forget your own humble beginnings and remember that not so long
ago, everyone looked down on you. All you can do is appreciate the metamorphosis
you made now that you're on its good side. You adore stained-glass
windows.
Take the Animal Quiz at the Blue Pyramid.
I'm a duck! (This makes no sense, but it's funny anyway)
You're a Duck!
Incredibly versatile and capable of carrying yourself over almost any surface of the Earth, you are a born traveler. As you journey far and wide, you tend to try to follow the climate to keep things mild and temperate. While you were always told you were ugly at a young age, you've since managed to grow out of it. You now find orange to be a very favorable color for shoes. Lately you've come to be caught up in the petty peddling of unnecessary insurance.
Take the Animal Quiz at the Blue Pyramid.
Book Update
Oh yeah, I'm leaving work early today. We do this thing during the warm months called "Spring Fling", where you can work thirty minutes extra every day of the week and get off (including your lunch that day) a half day early one day that week. That's what I'm doing, and I'm splitting up my half day between today and Thursday.
Tonight, the marching band has a booster club meeting (parental and financial support system: aka: where my paycheck comes from). We're meeting our new director as well. Hopefully, she'll whip this band into shape like it has needed for a long time. Also, band camp next week! I have a whole week of vacation set aside just for camp. Though, I'm missing the next week, probably all of it, too. It's either that or miss some of the away football games as I don't have THAT much vacation time... I'd have to dip into my sick time, and I was sorry I took that step last year when it came time for my allergies to hit an all-time high. I'm just going to have to prioritize. Either way, I lose $$. We get paid not for the whole week, but for each separate event.
Thursday, we have our last Furman Lakeside concert. I really love being a part of it, but it's always hard for me to rearrange my work schedule to fit the rehearsals and concerts, just like with marching band. In fact, unless I change my actual work schedule, maybe even just 30 minutes earlier, that fact won't change. Wow - if I had just 30 minutes, I could keep so many extra days due only to the Greenville Concert Band that I have every Thursday during the school year, as well as Lakeside. Berea (marching band) would still require some 1/4 and 1/2 days off, but it wouldn't be so hard to work that out if I had the extras left over from these!
Yikes - I have a big mouth today, and I just got here! More later.

Rooster's Revenge
My other thought is - roosters are 3 feet tall?!?!?!?!?!
from www.ananova.com
Rooster fights fox
A 3ft rooster fought off a fox after it broke into his coop.
Rooster Cogburn made sure the fox did not come near his hens reports the Daily Express.
Owner Tim Stone from Shepton Mallet, Somerset said: "I was asleep when I heard a huge commotion. I went outside to see what it was all about and saw fur and feathers everywhere. There was a yelp and I saw the fox limp off. The rooster was strutting around like a boxer after a fight and crowing like mad.
"He didn't have a scratch on him so I can only imagine he beat the fox within an inch of his life. I don't think he'll be coming back."
The bird was named Rooster Cogburn after John Wayne's character in the film True Grit.
What was your first clue?
from www.ananova.com
Fruit salad tree was a hoax
An apple tree which baffled its owner by 'producing plums and blackberries' has turned out to be a hoax.
Harry Tomlinson's tree, in his garden in north Wales, was reported in newspapers and on TV news bulletins.
But close inspection revealed that the plums and blackberries had simply been stuck on.
The identity of the Abergele practical joker remains a mystery.
Dr Colin Norton, of the Welsh College of Horticulture, said: "We're always interested in new plants but this one, from 10 yards away, you can see it's a hoax."
Mr Tomlinson, who is 94, admitted he had been tricked and added: "I think it's a rotten trick."

Oh yeah - the separate blogger names SEEMED like a good idea at the time, but I don't like that my preliminary profile doesn't come up now. I deleted the home name and will only use The Phantom Piccolo at home and at work.
By the way, I LOVE my wireless mouse at work. So much better than the old crappy one!

Monday Credit Collection Blues
We have a jewelry account with a large well-known jewelry company for our wedding rings (and a couple of add-ons here and there... watches, etc). It's in my name but Josh pays it, which was the plan all along. We weren't touching his credit for awhile to help him close out an older item on his credit history. In fact, we only just now used his credit this weekend for the new computer. With the exception of one time during the no pay, no interest time and this month, we have made over-the-amount payments AND paid them early. Trust that I am telling the truth, b/c I am not about to lie about my pay history and have it bite me in the butt later on... even somewhere slightly anonymous like my blog.
Anyway, my credit report still shows "paid as agreed" and even "paid 10 days prior to terms" on one occasion (I check my report alot... as you should!). However, our so-called credit manager called me bright and early this morning for payment status. I asked her why she was calling on a perfect account that only once went two weeks beyond terms. For her information, Josh really was taking the payment to the actual store tonight, but I doubted she'd believe that. He was going to mail it in this morning, but we didn't have any stamps since we mostly pay everything online now and hardly ever have a use for stamps. He was going to buy stamps, but didn't have the cash to do it without putting it on his debit card, so he just decided to drive the payment by tonight after work (it's at our local mall, so it'll be open). I did manage to tell her all of that after she asked if we had a joint account that I could pay out of AFTER I said that I'm not taking care of it over the phone b/c my husband deals with the payments on that account even though it's in my name (you know you like run-on sentences!). I proceeded to tell her about the stamps, and then she wanted to know when I was going out and buying the stamps!!!!!! By this time, I was livid. I told her to stop acting like a robot and talk to me like a human being. I said I was getting the stamps, and I didn't know what time of the day I was getting them. I told her she's not getting any more specific payment information than that. She asked again when I was getting the stamps, and that's when I completely lost it. I told her I was picking them up at 12:49 or something, and asked her if that was specific enough for her? She said "If that's what you want me to write down." I finally said "Write it." I hung up on her as she was asking her next question. If I'd said anymore, I'd have had to call my Grandma and PaPa and tell them what a bad Methodist I'd been.
What a way to start out a day! I had to spill the beans to my cubicle-mate, who happens to be our in-house collections person. She said I should have transferred my call over to her LOL. THAT would have been funny.
How sad is it that I pondered over this post for about 30 minutes?

Home Blogging
Josh and I watched "Hide & Seek" with Robert DeNiro and Dakota Fanning. It was kind of scary... just to watch the reactions on Dakota's face when the crazy stuff happened.
Josh took Lucy to the v-e-t this morning while I had band practice w/ the high school kids. He said that she was sweet, but so pitiful when they had to take some...shall we just say... samples! However, at least she's done with the shots. All she has to do now is the spay/microchip session. She'll be under anesthesia for that. We're doing that in two months when she's 6 months old. With all the cats that hang out at our apartment complex, we definitely don't want her going into heat around here!
Yay! I finally bought a cordless optical mouse. I was going to get one of those new laser mice, but Circuit City was out of them even after the poor sales guy talked me into it LOL. It's for work anyway... I'm tired of those P.O.S. standard two-button scroll Logitechs they give out. I had one before that my dad gave me. It was everything this new one is except it was corded. I finally have my fwd-bkwd internet buttons on the side! I missed those after the one that my dad gave me died out.
I'm on pg. 574 of Harry Potter 5! Not long now! I hate that I'm reading so slow, but I can't help it since I'm in band season now. Book 6 might take longer. There are some band trips coming up, though... maybe I can catch up then... plus get back to Dante's Inferno and re-read Patricia Cornwell's "Portrait of a Killer", which I started way before any of the others! I swear I will finish at least these four before I start anything else.
Oh yeah!
Dude - we're gettin' a Dell! Josh ordered it tonight for my October birthday. It'll arrive after 8-10. I know it's early, but hey - we got the credit tonight without even knowing if we were eligible. The interest rate blows goats, though... if I write it down here, it'll piss me off next time I see it. Hopefully, we can pay it off earlier and avoid alot of that anyway. So far, with all of our debt, we've done that - even with my car loan I pay extra. With just paying 20 bucks extra a month, I pay it off 3 months early, and I have sometimes paid as much as half a payment extra. I get paid bi-weekly, so for two months out of every year, I'll get one extra paycheck. That usually catches me up or lets me get ahead. Last time, it let me get ahead - woo-hoo!
Starting diet Monday - not really dreading it this time so much. Josh promised me that if I lost the weight I want to lose, he'll quit smoking cigars (don't worry - he's not one of those "you need to lose weight" jerks, I mentioned the deal on my own). That really gives me the momentum to do it... as if I needed another reason, right?
Yeah, well - enough writing. Time to read. Goodnight!

Goal Post (pun intended!)
Which brings me to my next topic: I am FINALLY going back on a diet starting Monday. It's easier for me to start a diet on a work week rather than the weekend for some reason. My goal is to lose 10 lbs. at a time... working my way down to my ideal body weight. It's easier for me to work for little goals instead of discouraging myself looking at the big picture that will take me forever to reach.
Also, I'm going to embarrass myself by posting my weight here (I have put up pics of myself, so it's not like you'd think I'm lying, right?). My current weight is 256lbs. Yikes - that was hard to write down. It makes me not want to post this, but I'm going to! I'm sick of not fitting into my cute clothes! I have such a great wardrobe about four sizes smaller than I am now. I know it'll take some time to get there, but that's my "down-the-road" goal... to fit into those clothes.
Wow - I think this is enough frankness for the day. I'll write more later, but it'd better be funny!
PS: I'm on pg. 531 of HP5 - I'm getting closer!!
Quote for the day
The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.

Rock Band Fun
David is my closest cousin. We're only three weeks apart in age. He was even one of the groomsmen in our wedding! I'll put a pic up sometime. :)
new additions!
Oh - and check out the clock!

Next few classes
- Police/Community Relations
- Industrial/Retail Security (already have minor experience here by sitting in with the crackhead thieves we used to nab at Kmart)
These two classes should complete my Associate Degree in Public Service, then on to the Forensics Certificate, which will open the door to the county/city job!
Some of the other forensics classes I want to take soon: - Intro to Criminal Justice (I tested out of that class, but it's a pre-requisite to everything else and I am tired of having to get approval to take everything else I want.)
- Fingerprint Science
- Criminology (causation theories, society's reactions, etc)
- Forensic Photography (this looks like alot of fun!)
- Practical Crime-Scene Investigations (hands-on to evidence collection & crime-scene preservation, etc)
I'm excited to get back into the program, since I have been gone so long! Of course, it'll take a while to get all of these under my belt since I am full time work-force now, but I will stick with it!
Home at Last
By the way, I got really nervous last night when I went home and couldn't find Lucy! As it turned out, she was hiding from me and effing with my mind, but I felt a twinge of pain when I couldn't find her AND had thought that someone else had a kittie that looks exactly like her! I also had a dream that she ran away! :*( I had to call Josh this morning and make sure he saw her also!
BREATHE - It's ok!!

Lucy's Twin
Harry Potter
Dante is on hold for now while I'm trying to catch up with Harry Potter. :)
Besides, it’s not like I can read book 6 anyway if I wanted to. I left it at my parent’s house the day after I got it!
Now I have word that my sister is supposed to go into the hospital on Thursday, not yesterday like I had originally understood. I had time to at least send her a birthday card this morning. I can’t send the care package yet, because she can’t have any friend/family contact for 45 days. So now, I’ll just hang on to what I have and make it even better, and I’ll send it closer to when she can appreciate it.

Band Director
I can also stop writing drill... awesome! It was going to be a struggle having CARMEN ready for camp. I'm sure the drum captain who was doing it on his own was further ahead than me, since I was busier working on instrumentation and balance.
Wow - I just found out we're getting paid alot more than last year - this will cover my Christmas presents as well as whatever else I was planning to use it for!
Time to go - goodnight!!
Funny Headlines
I am a medical student currently doing a rotation in toxicology at the Poison Control Center. Today, this woman called in very upset because she caught her little daughter eating ants. I quickly reassured her that the ants are not harmful and there would be no need to bring her daughter into the hospital. She calmed down and at the end of the conversation happened to mention that she gave her daughter some ant poison to eat in order to kill the ants. I told her that she better bring her daughter in to the Emergency room right away.

Seems that a year ago, some Boeing employees on the field decided to steal a life raft from one of the 747s. They were successful in getting it out of the plane and home. When they took it for a float on the river, they were quite surprised by a Coast Guard helicopter coming towards them. It turned out that the chopper was homing in on the emergency locator that is activated when the raft is inflated. They are no longer employed there.

A true story out of San Francisco: A man, wanting to rob a downtown Bank of America, walked into the branch and wrote "this iz a stikkup. Put all your muny in this bag." While standing in line waiting to give his note to the teller, he began to worry that someone had seen him write the note and might call the police before he reached the teller window. So he left the Bank of America and crossed the street to Wells Fargo. After waiting a few minutes in line, he handed his note to the Wells Fargo teller. She read it and surmising from his spelling errors that he wasn't the brightest light in the harbor, told him that she could not accept his stickup note because it was written on a Bank of America deposit slip and that he would either have to fill out a Wells Fargo deposit slip or go back to Bank of America. Looking somewhat defeated, the man said "OK" and left. The Wells Fargo teller then called the police who arrested the man a few minutes later, as he was waiting in line back at Bank of America.

Drug Possession Defendant, Christopher Jansen, on trial in March in Pontiac, Michigan, said he had been searched without a warrant. The prosecutor said the officer didn't need a warrant because a "bulge" in Christopher's jacket could have been a gun. "Nonsense," said Christopher, who happened to be wearing the same jacket that day in court. He handed it over so the judge could see it. The judge discovered a packet of cocaine in the pocket and laughed so hard he required a five minute recess to compose himself.

Oklahoma City: Dennis Newton was on trial in a district court for the armed robbery of a convenience store when he fired his lawyer. Assistant District Attorney Larry Jones said Newton, 47, was doing a fair job of defending himself until the store manager testified that Newton was the robber. Newton jumped up, accused the woman of lying and then said, "I should have blown your (expletive) head off." The defendant paused, then quickly added, "if I'd been the one that was there." The jury took 20 minutes to convict Newton and recommended a 30-year sentence.

R.C. Gaitlan, 21, walked up to two patrol officers who were showing their squad car computer equipment to children in a Detroit neighborhood. When he asked how the system worked, the officer asked him for identification. Gaitlan gave them his drivers license, they entered it into the computer, and moments later they arrested Gaitlan because information on the screen showed Gaitlan was wanted for a two-year-old armed robbery in St. Louis, Missouri.

A guy walked into a little corner store with a shotgun and demanded all the cash from the cash drawer. After the cashier put the cash in a bag, the robber saw a bottle of scotch that he wanted behind the counter on the shelf. He told the cashier to put it in the bag as well, but he refused and said "Because I don't believe you are over 21." The robber said he was, but the clerk still refused to give it to him because he didn't believe him. At this point the robber took his drivers license out of his wallet and gave it to the clerk. The clerk looked it over and agreed that the man was in fact over 21, and he put the scotch in the bag. The robber then ran from the store with his loot. The cashier promptly called the police and gave the name and address of the robber that he got off the license. They arrested the robber two hours later.

A True Story. If she had killed herself, God forbid, she'd be a shoo-in for the Darwin Award. Last summer, down on Lake Isabella, located in the high desert, an hour east of Bakersfield, California, a woman, new to boating was having a problem. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't get her brand new 22-ft Bayliner to perform. It wouldn't get on a plane at all, and it was very sluggish in almost every maneuver, no matter how much power she applied. After about an hour of trying to make it go, she putted over to a nearby marina. Maybe they could tell her what was wrong. A thorough topside check revealed everything was in perfect working order. The engine ran fine, the outdrive went up and down, the prop was the correct size and pitch. So, one of the marina guys jumped in the water to check underneath. He came up choking on water, he was laughing so hard. (remember, this is supposed to be true.......) Under the boat, still strapped securely in place, was the trailer!
Sarah's Poem
It's just part of a fwd I got, but it got to me.
My name is Sarah
I am but three,
My eyes are swollen
I cannot see,
I must be stupid
I must be bad,
What else could have made
My daddy so mad?
I wish I were better
I wish I weren't ugly,
Then maybe my mommy
Would still want to hug me.
I can't speak at all
I can't do a wrong
Or else I'm locked up
All the day long.
When I'm awake.
I'm all alone
The house is dark
My folks aren't home.
When my mommy does come
I'll try and be nice,
So maybe I'll get just
One whipping tonight.
Don't make a sound!
I just heard a car
My daddy is back
From Charlie's Bar.
I hear him curse
My name he calls
I press myself
Against the wall.
I try and hide
From his evil eyes
I'm so afraid now
I'm starting to cry.
He finds me weeping
He shouts ugly words,
He says its my fault
That he suffers at work.
He slaps me and hits me
And yells at me more,
I finally get free
And I run for the door.
He's already locked it
And I start to bawl,
He takes me and throws me
Against the hard wall.
I fall to the floor
With my bones nearly broken,
And my daddy continues
With more bad words spoken.
"I'm sorry!", I scream
But its now much too late
His face has been twisted
Into unimaginable hate.
The hurt and the pain
Again and again
Oh please God, have mercy!
Oh please let it end!
And he finally stops
And heads for the door,
While I lay there motionless
Sprawled on the floor.
My name is Sarah
And I am but three,
Tonight my daddy
Murdered me.

Post-a-rama
Does anyone even read my blog? Here are my ready-made reactions to your answers:
Yes:
Good on ya! Winkie buttons for all!
No:
Do it! You'll get a winkie button!
Carri, you suck:
don't read it! Go away!
I'm just browsing, don't pick on me:
Aww... poor thing!
Sis
I hope she gets better soon. It's in her best interest... no doubt about that.
PS: It's her birthday 7-31, so I want to finish her care package before then.

Josh is really encouraging me to take the forensics road. He, however, would cringe if he had to see some of the things I'll be seeing. Funny if you think about it.
Josh's favorite quote
Ezekiel 25:17. "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

July 4th
About ten minutes before I went on stage to warm up, the clouds started rolling in. It got REALLY dark and we knew it was going to start raining. I walked up to the stage and I felt a raindrop. By the time I sat down (we had to wait for the stage to clear), it started raining a little. When we got out our instruments, it was pouring! I saw this mass of umbrellas come out all at once, my in-laws included. I had to tell Josh to run to the car and get my umbrella (rain wasn't really expected that day). About a third of the crowd left, and we cut our performance by around 5-7 songs.
By the time we played 1812 Overture, the rain was down to a trickle. The cannons still went off and the fireworks still went off as well. All in all, it was a good performance.
Poor Josh, though..... he was ABSOLUTELY SOAKED by the end of it all. Even his wallet took two days to dry out.

Grr
We have a long weekend, so I might not even post on Monday. It's going to be a busy day anyway, with getting ready for and performing in the 4th at Furman concert.
Wow - it poured rain today for about 30-45 minutes. I'm surprised that no flash floods showed up anywhere.
I'm picking up my niece tonight! We're going to have such fun together. I haven't had her over since the night before our wedding. We stayed up so late that night, too. We were both hungover from lack of sleep! We'll probably be like that at least one night this time, if not both nights. Her mom told me that she got up this morning and said something like, "It's going to be such a beautiful day today!" Her mom asked her why, and she said it was because I was picking her up today. That makes me feel so good! :)
Anyway, to whoever reads this in the U.S.: Happy Fourth of July!
